The DSD is very different from PCM, using a sampling frequency 64 times higher than that of a standard Compact Disc, offers a frequency response of up to 100 kHz and a dynamic range of up to 120 dB across the entire audible range.

This will prevent Windows noises coming out at full volume after you stop playing music When doing this its a good idea, afterwards, to change the active sound device to something else (ie your monitor), set this to whatever volume level is comfortable, HQP will connect directly to the soundcard. The best free player for sound quality I have used is Foobar2000. The software volume control changes this. The AE-5s gain is controlled by the driver. If it is boosting the signal outside of the normal volume control, it does so before the AE-5 receives it.
